 Breath & Breathing

Better Breathing
Transformation
Why Breathe?
My First Session

Breathwork is always taught and practiced in a heart-centered atmosphere. The specific techniques, exercises and methods used, will depend upon one's level of health, degree of skill, and the purpose of training. I have attached certain principles to this work. I apply them always, and I encourage others to adopt them as ground rules for growth. The following are some of those guiding principles.

Freedom and Safety

If genuine spiritual growth is to occur, an atmosphere of freedom and safety must be created. A sense of unconditional love and acceptance of ourselves and each other must be felt in order for the inner child or the ancient soul to emerge. In a limiting or fearful environment, one cannot breathe easily or fully. Without total freedom and complete safety there can be no real full expression of our divine human potential. Breathing in an atmosphere of freedom and safety allows spirits to soar, hearts to open, and genius to emerge.

Oneness and Wholeness

All fear, dis-ease and suffering stem from a sense of separation, fragmentation, or lack.  If there is a goal or a purpose for Breathwork, it is to experience this essential and ultimate Oneness and Wholeness. All reports of mystical, peak, or religious experiences, in one way or another, express an integrated sense of awakening to this unity and fullness. We are all breathing the same breath. The breath that is in me now, was in you last week, will be in the bird flying overhead tomorrow, and the dog walking down the street next week. The breath literally connects us. Our goal is to realize and express this connection, our oneness with all life, with nature, with each other.

Energy and Aliveness

The more in touch you are with your essential nature, the more energy you will have. The closer you get to God, the more filled with life you become. All growth techniques, processes, meditations, or healing methods should result in more energy and aliveness, if they are to have any value at all. A natural sense of goodness and happiness go hand in hand with the feeling of more energy and aliveness. We are after all, living beings. And life above all is the bottom line! Breath Awareness and Conscious Breathing is the key to more energy and aliveness.

   Peace and Power

The awakening of inner peace and the promotion of world peace are fundamental to this work. There is a peace that transcends understanding. There is a deep part of us that has never been touched by the world, never been affected by our dramas and traumas. And there is an infinite source of power within us waiting to be tapped and to be creatively expressed. They come together in Conscious Breathing. They are the eye and the storm of Breath Mastery..

Forgiveness and Gratitude

The essence of life is love! These attitudes, these choices, are like grease for the slide home! They are the cure for toxic emotions like anger, guilt and resentment. They lead us from loneliness and depression to joy and fulfillment. Decisions and affirmations based on these thoughts, as well as deeds and actions motivated by this energy, speed up our healing process and  accelerate our awakening. Don't underestimate the power of these virtues. To be grateful and forgiving is an important part of Rebirthing and Spiritual Breathing.  To express these virtues is to express a core aspect of your true nature.

Health and Happiness

Immediate, tangible and lasting improvements in physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual health and well being must be expected--and should be experienced--if you improve your breathing. Basic things like less stress, more comfort and pleasure, better relationships, higher self-esteem, fewer colds, greater success, are some of the natural outcomes of Breathwork. I assume that the average person considers these things to be acceptable and desirable. If you want sickness and misery, then Breathing is not for you!

Comfort and Pleasure

No one needs to suffer in this life in order to earn a reward in the next. The universe supports us in our growth, (God wants his children to be happy!) So with Breathwork, struggle is unnecessary: in fact, it is against the rules! The road to heaven is one of increasing joy (That's how you know you're getting closer!) One of the big mistakes that breathers make is to assume that suffering is necessary. One of my teachers once told me that there are two kinds of suffering: one leads to more suffering and the other leads to growth. So, awareness is vital. On the Path of Breath Mastery, you can use comfort and pleasure as a gauge. You can use joy as your compass!

Circles and Cycles

Universal forces, structures and movements that occur everywhere in nature must also occur in us, must be reflected in our personal Breathing Practice, and must be allowed expression in our lives and in our work. Good Breathing Techniques are actually rooted in these fundamental principles. By becoming conscious of them, you will move into harmony with them. ("Do not think that the drop alone becomes the ocean: the ocean too, becomes the drop!")

Rhythm and Balance

Yin and Yang, active and passive, the tides, the seasons, day and night, inhale and exhale. Life follows a natural rhythm, it is a delicate balance of powerful forces. The breath is a tremendous force, and so your Breathing Practice should reflect the principles of balance and rhythm that shape existence and reality. Dance with your breath!

Love and Light

We are truly beings of light, and our essence is indeed love. Everything else can be seen as a temporary illusion. To breathe the "breath of life," is to merge with all that "is." With each breath, you demonstrate your natural trust in the goodness of life. You can use every breath to affirm and express the essential qualities of life. You can be a bright, shining, unique expression of the perfection of life. This is the Path of Breath Mastery: to be loving and expanding. This is fundamental to the Practice of Spiritual Breathing.
