MAGIC IN THE AIR! July 2006 Breath and Breathing Report from Dan Brulé: www.breathmastery.com Breathwork (the Practice of Breath Awareness and Conscious Breathing) is the quickest, most effective way to clear your head, settle your stomach, calm your nerves, and open your heart to love! Breathwork is like balance: it cannot be taught, but it can be learned. Anyone can apply the art and science of breathwork as a tool for health, growth and change, on their own. But you can save yourself a lot of time and energy with the support of a well trained coach, practitioner, or facilitator; and by practicing breath and breathing exercises and techniques at a seminar in a supportive group of likeminded individuals. I invite everyone with an open heart, and an open mind to discover, explore and develop the power and potential of conscious breathing. I challenge every skeptic and doubter to apply breath control for peak performance, optimum health, and ultimate potential. I invite you to experience the healing art of spiritual breathing for yourself. And I absolutely and unconditionally guarantee that everyone who participates fully in my seminars or sessions will produce deep and lasting benefits in spirit, mind and body: regardless of their level of health, degree of skill, previous training, or past experience. We are approaching a quintessential moment in the history and evolution of conscious life on this planet. The Breath of Life (Spiritual Breathing) is revealing itself to be the driving force at the heart and the cutting edge of this coming leap in human development. As war and violence spreads in the Middle East, as hunger, poverty, ignorance and unconsciousness worsen in many parts of the world, something else is also happening: the opposite! Healing and growth, prosperity, spiritual awakening, personal and planetary enlightenment are accelerating. Things are getting better and worse at the same time! I love to work with world peace and human potential advocates, healers and teachers, energy workers and light workers, counselors and therapists, students, office workers, housewives, and others. I live to support everyone who is called and guided by the Spirit of Breath to lift themselves and those around them to the highest levels of consciousness. Ordinary people are creating miracles! I am seeing it everywhere I go. I’ve seen it here in Mexico, not far from the ancient pyramid at Chichen Itza. Just today, at a daycare center here, everyone spilled tears of joy and laughter, ecstasy and bliss! I witnessed it two weeks ago in Sedona and Santa Barbara. And I have no doubt that I’ll see it in Windham, Providence, and Manchester August 4-14. This is your invitation to participate in these seminars and sessions, and in any of the programs scheduled around the world after that. (Please don’t let money—or the lack of it—keep you from attending a seminar!) Spiritual Breathing teaches us that we are all connected in love. It’s not just a pretty spiritual idea: it is a fact in reality. And once we are inspired by this living connection, there is no forgetting, and no going back. What a privilege and what a blessing it is to be in the service of life, and to witness the miracle of breath! But be careful in opening to the spirit of breath: because just when you think life cannot get any better, it does! Some Tips on the Practice of Breathwork Breathwork involves two things: breath awareness and conscious breathing. Breath awareness means you let the breath come and go by itself. You don’t “do” the breathing. You simply observe it, watch it, and feel it. Let the body breathe itself and explore the feelings and sensations that arise; pay detailed attention to the movements and patterns. Conscious breathing means you “do” the breathing. You bring a certain rhythm or pattern or quality or intention to the breathing. You take over from the body. In practice, we go back and forth between “letting the breathing happen” and “doing the breathing.” Here are a few things you can observe, explore, or play with. (Kids, do try this at home!) When you play with these exercises, notice what feels easy and natural, and what requires concentration or effort; what is comfortable, challenging, interesting, fun, or pleasurable. The opening/channel: Does the breath flow in and out the nose, or in and out the mouth? Does it flow in the nose and out the mouth? Or in the mouth and out the nose? Or does it flow in and out both the nose and mouth at the same time? (The nose is meant to breathe through. It was designed by nature for that purpose. It has hairs that filter dust, and chambers and passages that condition and spiral the air. But, have you ever tried to laugh or cry with a closed mouth? Have you noticed that when strong emotions come, you naturally shift from nose to mouth breathing? Mouth breathing allows us to shape the stream of air and to produce various breath sounds. Different breath sounds light up different organs, and activate different sensations and emotions, energies and states The speed/rate: Can you breathe quickly? (30 breaths a minute? 60 breaths a minute? Quicker?) Can you breathe slowly? (6 breaths a minute? 2 breaths a minute? Slower?) A healthy balanced person should be able to touch these extremes with ease and grace. The volume/depth: Can you breathe tiny breaths, creating almost no movement or sound? Can you breathe full deep expansive breaths that can be heard in the next room? The locus/focus: Can you breathe high into your chest? Low into the belly? Can you expand from side to side? Can you breathe into your back? Can you breathe energy into your arms and hands? Legs and feet? Can you breathe into your organs, your chakras? Breath holding/pauses: Do you hold the breath for a moment between the inhale and the exhale? Does your breath naturally pause after the exhale and before the next inhale? Are there “sticky” points in your breathing—glitches? Does your breathing lock up or get ragged when you are under stress or in certain situations? Can you take in a deep breath and hold it in effortlessly? Can you empty yourself and hold the breath out easily? Do you know about the reflex points and the neutral points in the natural breathing cycle? If you are an athlete, performer, or martial artist, these points can give you an edge on the competition. Do you know that with overly deep and rapid breathing—hyperventilation, you can cut the supply of oxygen to the brain by 40% in less than 90 seconds? Do you know that certain breathing techniques can prolong, or even save your life? It’s a fact! Breath Mastery Schedule: Aug 4-7: Windham NY. Contact Michael: 305-503-6196; adio@batelnet.bs.
