I am writing to you from off the grid here at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula. We are fortunate to be out of harm’s way. In fact, we created Bio Sana as a place of refuge exactly for times like these.
Our gardens and orchards are providing an abundance of food. Being here off the grid makes social distancing very easy! Construction and improvements in infrastructure continue at a steady pace. And it’s a perfect time to do some inner work, strengthen our spiritual muscles, build up our immune system, and practice compassion.
Our friend Ela in South Africa recently reminded me that this is about spreading the “karuna” bug, not the corona virus. Karuna means compassion in Sanskrit. I am feeling a lot of compassion for people who are freaking out and allowing fear-based thinking to dominate their consciousness.
If ever there was a time to pause and breathe, this is it. In fact, life seems to be forcing us all to pause. We are certainly all in this together: one world. Viruses don’t discriminate and they don’t respect borders. Covid-19 is a great equalizer!
And maybe it ain’t so bad that mass consumerism takes a pause either! Maybe we can use this time to focus on what’s really important. Many people are always talking about not having enough time to exercise or read or meditate or spend quality time with loved ones. Now, many people have all the time in the world. Let’s use it wisely.
This is a perfect time to apply the basic life principles of breathwork:
1. Awareness. Become more conscious of your thoughts, observe your mood, your attitude, your habits, pay attention to your actions and reactions, your personal boundaries, and adjust them in healthy positive ways.
2. Relaxation. Don’t let stress and tension or anxiety build up. Stay open and soft and flowing. Let go of your own fearful reactions and don’t let the fear gripping the world spread to your body-mind system.
3. Breathing. Energize yourself. Charge your heart, your nervous system and your immune system with pure life force. Use this time to strengthen your intuition and to connect with your center, your source, your heart, your essence, your purpose, mission.
This is a time for us all to get real and get creative, real fast! Take advantage of this unplanned opportunity for some personal growth and inner work. Here is an example of a great carona in-home lockdown morning ritual. It comes from my friend Mark Divine:
1. First words: Start your day with a few minutes of high-quality self-talk (use uplifting affirmations, power statements, mantras, etc.). Do this to preempt or override automatic, survival-based, or fear-based mental reactions.
2. Hydrate: Drink a glass of fresh clean water to quickly fuel your body. And, while drinking it, deliberately generate feelings of gratitude and appreciation.
3. Power up: Use breathwork to charge your system with life force energy. Practice the full yogic breath, box breathing, or slow diaphragmatic breathing for 5-20 minutes to counteract fear, anxiety, worry, stress, etc.
4. Visualization: Picture yourself moving thru your day with ease and enjoyment. See yourself successfully completing all your planned tasks.
5. Move: Stretch and move your body, your spine, joints, muscles. Do yoga, work out, dance. Focus on flow and mobility, flexibility and strength.
6. Throughout the day, take a minute or two here and there to re-establish or maintain your positivity, optimism, courage, compassion and healthy emotions. Uplift and inspire others. Stay focused on your purpose and mission!
And speaking of missions, we have had to cancel or postpone our events in Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Bali, Israel, and NYC. We will be watching the news and following all of the various guidelines and restrictions on travel, so stay in touch. For now, we are hopeful.
And we are also planning on expanding our online presence and events. Starting with Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2. Our theme is the Power of Human Heart Connections Biohacking with Breath and Brain Training
Here is the schedule as of today:
