This month I invite you to practice the first and most important step toward Breath Mastery and Self-Mastery, and that is Awareness.

I invite you to become more conscious of your breath and your energy, of your body, and mind, your feelings, sensations, and emotions, of your actions and reactions, and your choices.

Breath is the very Spirit of Life that flows in you and through you. Are you aware of this? Are you conscious of it? Rudolf Steiner once said: “We live with our soul in the breath.” Think about that.

Breathing is like listening to a symphony orchestra. And you are not only the audience: you are also the instruments, the musicians, and the conductor. You are the composer and creator of the music, and you are the music!

It’s time to tune into your Self and tap into your Source! I invite you to follow the path that the breath takes when it comes into you. Explore all the touch points in breathing, beginning with the tip of your nose.

Bring all your attention to the sensations of the air as it passes in and out of your nose. You may notice the air is cooler coming in, and warmer going out. Tune into the subtle sensations, to the details.

Notice which nostril is more open and which one is more constricted. Feel how the resistance lessens when you deliberately flair your nostrils, and feel how they want to slam shut when you inhale sharply and forcefully.

Now bring your attention further into your nasal passages, toward the bridge of your nose. Focus on the sensations of the air from the vantage point of your nasal cavities.

Then bring your awareness to your sinuses and your skull. Sense the breath from these touch points. Here you may notice a more subtle aspect or nature of the breath—and that is, as light.

Next, pay attention to the air as it passes thru your throat. Notice your breath from this vantage point. What are the subtle sensations? Is there any friction? Any scratchy sounds?

Now make yourself yawn. Trigger the yawning reflex. Notice how the yawn opens your throat and how it creates more space for the air to flow. Breathe through that extra opening and notice how the sound of your breath changes.

Next, feel the movement under your collar bones. Play with your breath to soften and loosen and open those small spaces in the upper lungs. Early emotions live there. Delicate feelings live there.

Follow the breath deeper into your chest, into your heart space. Open and expand your rib cage: side to side, front to back, top to bottom. Remember that half of your lungs are in your back. Breathe into your back as well as your chest. Celebrate your aliveness!

Let the breath fill your upper abdomen and your lower belly. Feel these places soften and open to the breath. Send the inhale into your lower back and your sacroiliac. Send it all the way down to the floor of your pelvis, to your hipbones and your tailbone.

Now breathe with your whole body. Expand your awareness and sense your breathing from all those touch points. Give yourself a full body experience of breath. Let your whole body breathe!

Be total. Be passionate! Be gentle. You are not just breathing air, you are breathing spirit, energy, prana, chi, ki, life force! Who do you want to be? How do you want to be? What do you want to do with your life? What is your mission, your purpose?

What qualities do you want to embody! What kind of energy do you want to fill yourself with and send out into the world? You can make every breath a prayer. You can experience every breath as a blessing.

Every breath is a gift, is a blessing! Life is a miracle! Count your blessings. Be total and be passionate when you breathe. Remember that what you get out of Breathwork depends on what you put into it.

Put your whole heart, mind, body and soul into every breath, and you will begin to unluck the full power and potential in yourself and in life!

Wishing you much luck and many blessings on your path.
